Being a pataphysicist

In 2014 I became a member of Le College De 'Pataphysique. Pataphysics is a creative practice that was invented by surrealist writer Alfred Jarry. He described it as "the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments". In 2025 I was invited to join OUPEINPO, an international collective who workshops potential painting that was started by pataphysicists in 1980.

Ministry of Notnot (2025)

The Ministry of Notnot is a year-long project created in collaboration with anonymous artists who act as ministers of an imaginary government dedicated to not giving up. This project was featured in issue 25 of Digital America.

The Story of A Shape (2025)

Made in collaboration with artist Lindsey Whittle, this meta narrative was presented at the Show of Hands festival in Cincinnati as well as the Test Screen Video Festival in Chicago.

This animation was created for the collective Pitriarchy and then was used in a video installation in the show Pataphysics 4 Institutions at Georgetown College.

Prof Pata gets Nakeid (Series 2020-2022)

In this series, my alter-ego “Prof Pata”, takes baths and discuss issues related to isolation. This series, started during the pandemic lockdown, intended to explore a more comforting side of Pataphysics while keeping its delicious absurdism.

Midwest Stories (2023)

Midwest Stories is a website completed for The Wrong Biennale. It was organized by the collective Satellite TV that I run with artist Thomas Osorio. The website explores the mythos of the Midwest as a fictitious place or a place defined by what it is not.

What is time for? That’s a good question. This video was presented as part of an interactive installation at The Dahrma Center in January 2019. It was also presented by Flatland Gallery in Chicago during their (The) Old Futures Almanac release event in 2020.

This image is from a series of tangled compositions of what French people call colloquially “l’Art Pompier” (Firefighter Art) which usually describes a certain kind of neoclassical academism full of damsels in distress and courageous and muscular greek apollos wearing gilded armors.
